| Pachanga clinches 2nd div title, seals promotion Ferocious all season long, Pachanga finally got its reward: The UFL second division title. The Red Phoenix clinched the crown with a game to spare after a 4-0 blanking of Agila Saturday night at the University of Makati field. The win boosted Pachanga to promotion to the first division next season, where it expects tougher competition. Pachanga, which reached the quarterfinals of the UFL Cup last year, proved relentless in its march to the top, winning 20 of its first 21 matches of the season. The win against Agila rendered Pachanga’s final match against Diliman FC on Saturday an anti-climactic affair. Both teams were tipped to battle for the title, after playing to a draw in the first round, but Diliman’s bid suffered a blow when it lost to Cebu Queen City in the second round. Pachanga will take the place of Navy in the top flight after the Armed Forces team won only one match in its first 16 matches this season. "We're ready for the challenge," said Pachanga team owner Freddy Gonzalez, who has tallied 33 goals this season. Gonzalez scored in the 89th minute, capping a dominant display for Pachanga which could finish the season undefeated with a victory over Diliman FC in its final match. Joven Bedic, Robert Canedo and John Paul Merida also found the back of the net for Pachanga, whose season was highlighted by an astonishing tally of 121 goals. |
