United Football League sides Global and Stallion Giligans get a taste of international football as it had been picked to test the Guam national team preparing for the East Asia Football Championships.
Global, running second behind Kaya in the title race, get a crack at the Matao at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Stallion gets its opportunity two nights later against the Guamanians, who are ranked No. 189 in the world rankings.
Guam is coming off a 0-3 loss to the Philippine team, which is also made up of players from the UFL. Guam actually has one player in its national side playing in the UFL in Kaya’s Jonahan Romero.
“Playing against the national team and the UFL clubs is perfect preparation for us,” said Guam coach Gary White. “We are grateful to the Philippine Football Federation and the UFL for this chance.”
Among those involved in the match against Guam last Tuesday at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod were Loyola Meralco Sparks’ Phil and James Younghusband and Anto Gonzales, Global’s Angel Guirado, Carli de Murga, Misagh Bahadoran and Marwin Angeles and Kaya’s Jason Sabio.
