Pasargad whips Navy

Pasargad continued its remarkable rise in the second half of the season with a 6-0 drubbing of Navy Red Juice Wednesday night in the United Football League at the University of Makati.

Once languishing at last place early in the season, Pasargad look on course for a Top 5 finish with another scintillating display that put the league’s bottom team to the sword.

The victory avenged Pasargad’s 1-2 loss to Navy in the first round. That has turned out to be Navy’s lone win this season.

A brace from Mohammed Ohadi fuelled the rout for Pasargad, which jacked up its tally to 21 points.

Outside the Top 3 of Kaya, Global and Loyola, Pasargad has been the hottest team in the league, collecting 17 points after the transfer window last march.

Milad Mehgandom, Charles Ujam, Hamed Hajimahdi and Sajad Kohdarami also found the back of the net as Pasargad dominated despite playing with only 10 men in the second half.

Ohadi volleyed home from close range three minutes into the game, before Hajimahdi’s brilliant individual effort doubled the advantage in the 10th minute.

Ujam made it 3-0 in the 19th minute, clinically finishing a counter-attack that he started. Ohadi found Ujam running in behind the defense and he set him up perfectly for the goal.

Pasargad remained ruthless in the second half even after the sending off of defender Mark Anthony Fernandez in the 44th minute.

Fernandez was at the heart of a scuffle right in the edge of their area, after his hit on Marlon Pinero. The Navy players had to be restrained as they went after Fernandez, who defiantly left the pitch.

Mehgandom scored on a quick counterattack rounding out Navy keeper Benito Rosalia four minutes into the second half. A minute later it was 5-0 with Kodarahmi pouncing on a defensive mishap to fire home from close range.
