Kaya, Loyola renew rivalry

Unbeaten Kaya and Loyola Meralco square off in a United Football League grudge match at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

Kickoff is at 4 p.m. with Kaya looking to exact revenge for their UFL Cup semifinal defeat to the Sparks.

More importantly, Kaya is looking to go clear at the top and stretch its unbeaten start to four matches. Stallion currently leads the pack, ahead of Kaya on goal difference.

The Sparks welcome back star striker Phil Younghusband into the lineup after he served a one-game ban for his red card in the 1-4 loss to Stallion.

Even without Phil, the Sparks showed they had more than enough firepower in nipping Global, 4-3, to jack up its record to nine points on three wins against a lone defeat.

Skipper James Younghusband scored twice in that game, thriving in his role as striker. Mark Hartmann and Byeong Jyeong yeol also found the back of the net for the Sparks.

Like Loyola, Kaya is also parading a vaunted attack that has so far mustered just enough to produce results.

Joshua Beloya scored his debut goal for the club last weekend and will be again be the player to watch for Juan Cutillas’ side.

Kaya though has plenty of attacking options in Alu Kigbu, Eric Dagroh, Prince Boley and Nate Burkey.

Kaya won its first game against Air Force, 1-0, but struggled in 2-1 victories over Navy and Green Archers United.

The Sparks have also won by the slimmest of margins against Green Archers (3-2) and Army (2-1).

Army faces Nomads in the first of two matches aired live by AKTV on IBC13 at 2 p.m.

Army is coming off a 2-2 draw against Air Force last weekend. Luis Brilliantes and Meliton Pelayo scored for last year’s third placer after Air Force had taken a 2-0 lead.

Nomads are hoping to rediscover their form after a 1-5 demolition they suffered at the hands of Global.

It will be up to the likes of attackers Steve Borril and Phil Connoly and defender Randy Musters to turn Nomads’ fortunes around.

Army sits at fifth in the table, just ahead of Nomads on goal difference and the game could prove crucial for both teams hoping to be at the upper half of the table by the end of the season.
